PURPOSE

The purpose of this policy is to prevent transmission of infection due to environmental contamination of
blood and body fluids and to maintain a clean and safe environment in the University of Wisconsin Organ
and Tissue Donation (UW OTD) laboratory and office. As a hospital based organ procurement organization,
UW OTD will use the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics (UWHC) Environmental Services staff to
complete the daily, weekly, and quarterly cleaning of the UW OTD laboratory located in University Hospital
room F8/184 and the lab office located in room F8/184A.

POLICY

A. UWHC Environmental Services Staff will complete the daily, weekly, and quarterly cleaning tasks
as outlined on the Laboratory Cleaning Checklist and will document completion of these tasks on
the Laboratory Cleaning calendar.
B. Completed Laboratory Cleaning Calendars will be maintained by UW OTD staff in the laboratory
cleaning checklist binder kept in the UW OTD laboratory. Archived calendars will be kept in a
maintenance binder.
C. All surfaces and equipment that have been exposed to biohazardous materials will be cleaned
with a Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) approved disinfectant by UW OTD staff
per UWHC policy 4.1.4.
D. Equipment requiring sterilization or disinfection will be delivered to UWHC Central Services with
a completed UWHC Central Services Requisition form by UW OTD staff.
