TITLE

PHARMACY SERVICES: OUTPATIENT SURGERY CENTER
(PACU/AMB CARE)



I. PURPOSE

A. To ensure a supply of controlled and non-controlled medications for Outpatient Surgery Center
(OSC).
B. To ensure pharmacy technician and registered pharmacist coverage for Outpatient Surgery.
C. To ensure medications are properly charged for, documented and returned to Outpatient Pharmacy at
the end of the day.

II. POLICY

A. F6/206 will be staffed by a pharmacy technician from 0615 - 1730 (0615 - 0900 OR Lead tech, 0900
- 1730 PM OSC tech). The phone number is 444-0054 and the technician can be reached via this
number (technician carries a cell phone at all times) for services and medication delivery from 0615 -
1730. The OR pharmacist can be reached via cell phone at 516-2463 from 0600 - 2000 Monday
through Friday. A central (CUD) pharmacist can be reached at 890-0666 twenty-four hours per day if
OSC pharmacy technician or OR pharmacist not available.
B. The AcuDose cabinet (or current automated dispensing unit) is available as needed for urgent medication
needs for Anesthesia and nursing personnel in both OSC Pre/Post and PACU areas.
C. Controlled medications obtained from the AcuDose cabinet that need to be wasted must be witnessed
by two licensed personnel per hospital policy via AcuDose cabinet (or current automated dispensing
unit) in OSC.

III. PROCEDURE

A. Medication not in the AcuDose is charged via Health Link EMR.
B. The narcotic count is kept up to date on a continuous basis by the AcuDose.
