I. PURPOSE

To provide a functional barrier against bacteriological contamination located at the end of the
water treatment pathway on the Fresenius 2008K and 2008T dialysis machines to ensure delivery
of ultra-pure dialysate.

II. POLICIES

A. The DiaSafe Plus filter will be replaced at least every 90 days or sooner in the case of a
failed DiaSafe filter integrity test by the Biomed Technician.
B. The DiaSafe filter integrity test will be performed bi-weekly.

III. GENERAL INFORMATION

A. The DiaSafe Plus filter is capable of filtering dialysate to produce ultrapure dialysis fluid
(defined as endotoxins <0.03 IU/mL). It is located on the back of the Fresenius 2008K
and 2008T dialysis machines.
B. The DiaSafe filter integrity test is performed manually on the Fresenius 2008K after the
machine has been rinsed, is placed is in the dialysis mode and is at normal operating
temperature and conductivity. The machine must be in an alarm-free state before the
DiaSafe filter integrity test can be performed. Any alarm during the test invalidates the
result.
C. The DiaSafe filter integrity test on the Fresenius 2008T machine has been automated to
occur with each Chemical Disinfect.

V. PROCEDURES

A. DiaSafe Filter Integrity Test on the Fresenius 2008K is performed Bi-Weekly (Every
other week)
1. Lift the dialysate hose cover and ensure the dialysate line Hansen connectors are
connected securely to the machine.
2. Go to the test option on the machine, push DiaSafe Test and confirm.

B. DiaSafe Filter Integrity Test on the Fresenius 2008T has been automated and is
performed after each Chemical Disinfect.
