GML DRUG SCREENS

To define the procedures for processing drug screen specimens from patients and sending them
to General Medial Lab (GML) for processing.
1. UWMF has entered into an agreement with GML to provide drug screen urine specimen
collection and chain of custody services to employees of GML contracted clients. Under this
agreement, we bill GML for the collection and chain of custody services (using CPT code
99000) and GML reimburses us directly for these services. We do not bill the companies.
GML bills the companies for the collection, chain of custody services, and drug screen tests.
2. Clinics providing drug screens under this agreement should process those drug screens
following the procedures noted below.
3. If feasible, Clinics contacted by companies wanting to contract with UWMF for drug screen
services may direct the company to GML so that the drug screen services can be processed
under this agreement. Where that is not feasible or the company prefers to use a different
reference lab, the Clinic coordinator or manager should follow the standard company account
1. To schedule and process an appointment in Epic for GML drug screen services, follow the
instructions outlined on Attachment A.
2. To register a patient with the GML drug screen account, follow the procedures outlined in

SCHEDULING A LAB APPOINTMENT
GML DRUG SCREEN PATIENTS
Call up the patient in appointment scheduling. Click Make appointment and follow the normal
appointment scheduling process.
At the account selection screen, check GML Drug Screen account. If this account has not been
set up for the patient, establish the account per the GML Drug Screen Registration instructions or
contact Central Registration at 287-2725 and request that they set up the account. YOU
CANNOT PROCEED WITH SCHEDULING UNTIL THIS ACCOUNT HAS BEEN
After selecting the GML drug screen account, complete scheduling as usual.
WHEN THE PATIENT PRESENTS FOR THE APPOINTMENT, GENERATE AN
ENCOUNTER FORM, MARK “99000” ON THE FORM, AND SEND THE FORM TO PBS
FOR DATA ENTRY.
GML DRUG SCREENS SHOULD NOT BE ENTERED INTO MISYS FOR SERVICES
PROVIDED UNDER THE GML COMPANY ACCOUNT AGREEMENT.
BE SURE TO INCLUDE THE CONTROL NUMBER ON THE ENCOUNTER FORM SO
THAT IT CAN BE ENTERED AS A PROCEDURE COMMENT DURING CHARGE ENTRY.
SETTING UP A GML DRUG SCREEN ACCOUNT
At the interactive face sheet, check for the presence of the GML account. If it is not there,
proceed with setting up the account (or contact central registration and ask them to set it up). If
it is there, skip the rest of these instructions.
On the interactive face sheet, click on guarantor accounts in the tree on the left side.
This will bring you to the following screen.
Click add in the middle section of the screen. This will bring you to the following.
Click on the ellipsis for account types. A pull-down menu will appear. Select “Company 2” and
The following screen will come up.
Replace patient name with 690000002 or GML Drug Screen (either will work). Then click on
The following screen will appear.
Click accept. The following message will appear.
Select Yes. This will take you to the following screen. Select Other and accept.
The process is now complete. When going back to the interactive face sheet, you will see that
the GML Drug Screen account has now been added to the patient.
