Clinic Operations Staff Options During Provider Absence Policy

Effective Date: 07/01/2008
Supersedes Policy Date: 03/05/2001

PURPOSE:

University of Wisconsin Medical Foundation (UWMF) providers will experience
occasional absences from work. The purpose of this policy is to provide options to
support staff for handling this available time.

POLICY:

During a provider’s absence, support staff has the following options available to them.
These options are listed in priority order and must be discussed and approved by the
supervisor or manager.

1. Request and utilize Paid Time Off (PTO) in accordance with UWMF’s
Time Off Policy, pending approval by his or her supervisor/manager.
2. Cover for another provider in another department or location as
determined by supervisor/manager. Please see the ‘Differential Pay
Policy’ for details on the eligibility for the hourly differential.
3. Take time off without pay, if no other option is available.

Support staff who do not request time off and who find themselves with
unscheduled/available time due to their provider's absence, should consult with
their supervisor/manager to discuss and determine the best option available to
them.
