PURPOSE

The purpose of this policy is to provide clear guidelines on how and when compensatory time may be
used for University of Wisconsin Organ and Tissue Donation (UW OTD) non - exempt, hourly staff. This
policy will not override any University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics (UWHC) policies.

DEFINITIONS
Full-Time Equivalent: The hourly time by which you are hired into your current role
Compensation: wages (in this case time) earned for performing work duties while on work time

POLICY

A. Due to the nature of the work of UW OTD, business may be conducted outside of the
standard work week of five days a week, eight hours per day.
B. As a result, staff may work past their FTE when in call statue or with prior approval from their
manager or manager’s designee.
C. Staff will obtain manager approval prior to working overtime when not in a call status.
D. Standard vacation, holiday, and sick leave will be taken in accordance with UWHC policies
9.40 and 9.50.
E. Staff will not work from home without prior approval of his/her manager.
F. You can comp any time over your FTE
G. Overtime hours are comped at time and a half
H. Employee is responsible for entering comp time through MyTime. MyTime will be the electronic
system to calculate and assist with administration.
I. Comp time can be used for low donor and donor related activities and sick days
J. Comp time cannot be used for scheduled vacation or holiday time
K. You can only bank 40 hrs. of comp time. Any time over will automatically reject and be paid out
L. You can cash out comp time twice a year. Email payroll to request a payout.
M. Banked compensation time can be rolled over year to year but cannot exceed 40 hours
N. UW OTD management staff will have discretion to monitor, enforce, and develop compensatory
time practices
