PURPOSE

The purpose of this policy is to provide clear guidelines on how and when compensatory time may be
used for University of Wisconsin Organ and Tissue Donation (UW OTD) exempt, salaried staff. This
policy will not override any University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics (UWHC) policies.

POLICY

A. Due to the nature of the work of UW OTD, business may be conducted outside of the UW
OTD standard work week of five days a week, eight hours per day.
B. As a result, staff may choose to work alternative schedules such as four days, ten hours per
day in a work week to equal 40 total hours.
C. Staff will obtain manager approval prior to working an alternative schedule.
D. Staff working an alternative schedule will label non-work time in his/her Outlook calendar.
E. Exempt, salaried staff may work more than 40 hours in a work week. This will not result in
accrual of compensatory time to be used during future work weeks per UWHC policy 9.14.
F. Standard vacation, holiday, and sick leave will be taken in accordance with UWHC policies
9.40 and 9.50.
G. Staff will not work from home without prior approval of his/her manager.
H. UW OTD manager staff will have discretion to monitor, enforce, and develop compensatory
time practices.
