PURPOSE

The purpose of this policy is to establish dress code and appearance expectations for UW Organ and Tissue
Donation (UW OTD) staff expanding upon UW Health Dress Code and Appearance Policy 9.16.

POLICY

A. During normal business hours Monday through Thursday, approximately 8am to 4:30pm, UW
OTD staff will comply with UW Health policy 9.16 in the UW OTD office (including the office and
laboratory located in University Hospital).
B. UW OTD staff may wear casual clothing during the following circumstances:
1. In the UW OTD office during normal business hours on Friday, approximately 8am to
4:30pm
2. In the UW OTD office during normal business hours Monday – Thursday for less than an
hour (examples: to drop off a chart, handoff information, pick up a fleet car, etc.)
3. In the UW OTD office after normal business hours
4. During work required travel. After the staff member arrives at the work destination,
staff will change into appropriate clothing per UW Health policy 9.16 or event
appropriate clothing per this policy.
C. Casual clothing will be clean, neat, in good condition, and will fit properly.
D. Casual clothing will not be torn, faded, or stained.
E. In venues outside the UW OTD office where staff is representing UW OTD (i.e. donor hospitals,
conventions, off-site meetings, community events, etc.), staff will follow UWHC policy 9.16
unless alternative event clothing would be more appropriate or would be required. For
example, if staff are working at an outdoor summer community run/walk they may wear an
event specific t-shirt and clothing appropriate for hot weather and physical excursion.
F. UW OTD organ procurement coordinators (OPCs) and surgical recovery staff may wear scrubs
during clinical shifts at the UW OTD office. Scrubs may also be worn on-site in donor hospitals
during clinical case activity.
G. UW OTD management staff will have discretion in determining and enforcing the appropriate
dress code.
