I. PURPOSE

The purpose of this policy is to establish guidelines for a uniform and systematic method for the
transplant coordinator when accepting an organ offer.

II. POLICY

The Clinical Transplant Coordinator is responsible for working with the physician and UW Organ
Tissue Donation (OTD), using the United Network of Organ Sharing (OPTN/UNOS) national allocation
policies, to determine a suitable recipient for donated organ(s). For outpatients, the Transplant
Coordinator will facilitate the potential recipient’s admission to the UW Hospital. For VA patients,
the VA Transplant Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the recipient’s arrival to UWHC for
their transplant.

IV. PROCEDURE

A. OTD notifies Transplant Coordinator of donor.
B. Transplant Coordinator reviews match runs and potential recipients with the appropriate
transplant surgeon.
C. Under direction of the transplant surgeon, the Transplant Coordinator notifies the selected
recipient of the potential organ offer and arranges admission to the UW Hospital.
