Title: Orderliness and Cleanliness Guidelines for
the Central Pharmacy

I. PURPOSE: To outline current standards of orderliness and cleanliness for the central
pharmacy.

II. POLICY: The central pharmacy will be cleaned daily by environmental services as
outlined below. Pharmacy staff will maintain their work areas in compliance with
standards for each area. It is the responsibility of each employee to ensure compliance
with these standards at all times. Area managers will periodically inspect work areas for
compliance with these guidelines.

III. PROCEDURE:
A. Housekeeping Schedule
1. Routine Trash Pickup in Central Pharmacy (Repack, SPA, Triage)
a. Weekdays: 9:15am, , 2pm, , 8:15pm,
b. Weekends: 9:15am, 2:15pm
2. Chemo Trash Pickup in Central Pharmacy (SPA)
a. 7 days/week: 9:15am
3. Routine card Board Pickup in Pharmacy Breakdown Area
4. General Cleaning by Housekeeping (7 days/week 10:30PM)
a. Dry mop or sweep all areas
b. Wet mop all areas including the stress mats
c. Clean all sinks
d. Wash all refrigerator doors and handles, and all other doors and
handles in the Pharmacy
e. Clean off all the phones
f. Clean sterile production areas
g. Check paper towel supplies by the sinks and always keep extra on
hand
h. Pick up Full Sharps Containers.
5. Scheduled Cleaning with Housekeeping as needed
a. As applicable, strip and wax Floors (done on PM and Night Shifts)
b. Quarterly cleaning in the sterile preparation areas
c. Quarterly wash all walls in SPA

B. Central Pharmacy Orderliness and Cleanliness Guidelines
1. General
a. No backpacks, reading material, or personal items may be in any
pharmacy work areas but should be kept in a locker.
b. Food is not allowed in any pharmacy work area.
c. Drinks are not allowed in any drug preparation areas including
SPA, Repackaging, Robot Packaging, and Triage areas.
d. Fire extinguishers must be accessible at all times (carts, boxes, and
other supplies must not block visibility or accessibility).
2. Area Specific Checklists
a. At the end of each shift, the staff leaving for the day will ensure
that the orderliness and cleanliness standards for their area are met.
