Title: Department of Pharmacy Compliance
with Laws and Regulations Pertaining
to Practice of Pharmacy


I. Purpose: To establish the Departments compliance with all state and federal statutes
regulating the practice of pharmacy and state licensure requirements of pharmacies and
pharmacists per the State of Wisconsin Department of Regulation and Licensing and the
Pharmacy Examining Board.


II. Policy: In all cases, policies and procedures of the Department of Pharmacy will be in
compliance with state and federal statues regulating the practice of pharmacy. If state and
federal statutes differ, the Department will comply with the stricter of the two.

III. Procedure:
A. The Wisconsin Pharmacy Examining Board is responsible for administering and
enforcing pharmacy laws and administrative rules in the State. These laws and rules are
outlined in the following Chapters of Wisconsin statutes:
1. Chapter 961, Uniform Controlled Substance Act
2. Chapter 440, Department of Safety and Professional Services
3. Chapter 450, Pharmacy Examining Board
4. Other administrative rules governing the Wisconsin Pharmacy Internship
Program, Pharmacy Examining Board, Medical Examining Board and Department
of Regulation and Licensing relating to the practice of pharmacy.
B. The Department has access to current copies of statutes as provided by the State of
Wisconsin, Department of Regulation and Licensing, as well as state and federal laws and
will refer to these documents in questions of law. Current copies of statutes and laws can
be found on the PSW web site: http://www.pswi.org/links.htm
C. Should controversy arise regarding the interpretation of specific statutes or codes,
Pharmacy Examining Board will be sought.
D. Pharmacy staff is required to follow relevant laws and policies and procedures applicable
to the department as well as the Department Administrative Standards.
