Title: Attendance and Punctuality

PE.10.10.02 Attendance & Punctuality
I. Purpose: To provide guidelines for Facilities & Engineering Services managers
consistent with University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics Policy and
Procedure 9.13 (Attendance and Punctuality) for monitoring the
attendance and punctuality of all employees of the Facilities &
Engineering Services Department.

II. Policy: This policy applies to all employees of the UWHC Facilities &
Engineering Services Department and prohibits excessive absenteeism,
excessive tardiness and sick leave abuse. Employees are expected to
report for duty as scheduled and to notify their supervisor prior to the
start of their shift, using the telephone number listed in Section IV of this
policy, whenever they are unable to do so. An unscheduled absence is
any absence that has not been approved in advance by your supervisor.

IV. Procedure:

A. Notification of Absence:

1. Each employee must contact Facilities & Engineering Services as
early as possible but never later than 1 hour prior to the start time
of their shift to report an unscheduled absence at the following
number:

Individuals Supervisors or Managers may require employees in
their section to call a second number.

2. Failure to comply with notification standard defined above may
result in the application of discipline as defined in University of
Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics Policy and Procedure 9.13
(Attendance and Punctuality).

B. Review:

1. Each Facilities & Engineering Services Supervisor will monitor
the attendance record of the employees they supervise.

2. Using the review process defined in University of Wisconsin
Hospital and Clinics Policy and Procedure 9.13 (Attendance and
Punctuality), the supervisor may initiate a review of an employee’s
record for the circumstances listed in University of Wisconsin
Hospital and Clinics Policy and Procedure 9.13 (Attendance and
Punctuality).

C. Progressive Discipline:

1. If, after a pre-disciplinary investigatory (P. D. I.) meeting, the
manager determines that a violation of policy exists and that
discipline is appropriate, progressive discipline will be applied as
defined in University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics Policy and
Procedure 9.13 (Attendance and Punctuality).
