The Department of Employee Trust Funds (ETF) recently communicated that certain benefits, including health insurance, will no longer be available to domestic partners and domestic partner’s child(ren) as of January 1, 2018. This benefit program change is the result of 2017 Wisconsin Act 59, that was signed into law as part of the 2017-2019 state biennial budget on September 21.
UW Health as an organization will continue to recognize Domestic Partnerships as they pertain to:
- Requesting time off for bereavement purposes (being considered a covered family member)
- Leave purposes (note: any changes to WI Family Medical Leave may be updated based on future communications and decisions from the State of Wisconsin)
In order for your Domestic Partner to be recognized at UW Health as of January 1, 2018 for the above purposes, a and supporting documentation must be completed and returned to Human Resources.
