Venous Access Team (VAT) - For Nurses, Leadership, Departments and Units, Nursing Operation Support

Focus

The Venous Access Team (VAT) is a comprehensive team providing vascular access services to the patients at UWHC. VAT is comprised of experienced nurse clinicians specializing in the assessment, insertion and maintenance of venous access devices for all age groups. The team duties include insertion of peripheral IVs for the difficult to start patients, insertion of PICC lines at the bedside with ultrasound guidance, midline catheter insertion, trouble shooting of vascular access devices, early assessment of patients for appropriate line placement and resource for nursing staff to enhance for vascular access skills. The team works collaboratively with all disciplines in planning and intervention for each patient's vascular access needs. VAT participates in monitoring quality out comes of vascular access devices placed by the Venous Access Team.
