The island of Puerto Rico is estimated to provide 10% of all US pharmaceuticals and numerous medical supplies. As a result of Hurricane Maria, numerous drug and supply shortages are expected. Intravenous fluids were in short supply prior to the hurricane, and now are at unprecedented low levels. The duration of the shortage is dependent on the speed of the Puerto Rico infrastructure recovery.
