UWHC supports the use of progressive discipline as a means to assist and encourage employees to correct misconduct and to achieve satisfactory work performance by complying with the organization’s work rules and performance standards. Progressive discipline is designed to be consistent with our organizational values, HR best practices and employment laws. It assures that the interests of UWHC, its patients, visitors and staff are considered in the application of discipline.
Steps of progressive discipline may include: verbal warning, written warning, suspension and discharge. UWHC reserves the right to determine the appropriate level of discipline, and/or whether skipping a level of discipline is appropriate, depending on the facts of each situation and the nature of the offense.
Prior to issuing discipline, an investigatory meeting will occur, during which an employee may have the support of an employee peer.
