The Practice Model Continuum (PMC) provides a structured framework in which to assess practice across all four practice levels. The PMC contains five major themes, which are: Performance Skills, Professional Behaviors, Interpersonal Abilities, Clinical Decision Making and Administration/Education/Outreach/ Research Activities. Each theme has several sub-themes or topic areas.
Each of the three (3) different levels of practice defines the elements of practice that are expected from staff and valued by the organization. The PMC serves as the framework for practice at each level and provides objectivity to staff in terms of how their practice will be assessed at each level and what practice elements must be achieved in order to advance to higher levels of practice.
OT and PT position descriptions reflect elements of the PMC and create the staff member's performance expectations. Entry and Clinician performance skills are included in the Clinician position description recognizing the ongoing professional development and growth of the newly graduated clinicial.
