Temporary shelter may be made available on a very limited basis for homeless adults with certain specific contagious and/or acute conditions. An offer of shelter will be considered only in situations under which the use of usual night-time shelters and day-time drop-in centers would seriously jeopardize the health of the patient and/or others around him/her. The Salvation Army does not provide case management or other basic needs such as food or transportation in these situations. Any agency or person referring someone for potential shelter due to a medical condition must take responsibility for arranging these services.
Certain illnesses and/or situations in which medical shelter may be provided are as follows:
- Infectious illness that would be contagious to others in shelter
- Illnesses or injuries requiring the use of a tub or extended bed rest
- Post-operative recovery
All illnesses and/or injuries must be acute and the patient must be able to recover within a short period of time (2-3 days).
If you are requesting medical shelter for a patient, please fax the Medical Shelter Referral Form to (608) 256-0569 attn: Melissa. Melissa can be reached at (608) 250-2227 for questions.
Please note the completion of this form does not guarantee an offer of shelter. Placement is subject to availability of funds and screening for program eligibility.
