The University of Wisconsin Medical Foundation (UWMF) has been strongly committed to compliance for many years. Our focus on compliance began in the late 1980s with an emphasis on professional coding of physician services. That focus has grown to include all aspects of corporate compliance including patient confidentiality, licensure/credentialing of care providers, service and vendor contracts, health information management, and all issues related to appropriate billing.
This broad-based compliance approach was formally structured in 1996 with the implementation of the UWMF Compliance Program adopted by the Board of Directors. At that time, a new department was organized to address the compliance operations of the organization.
