The mission of the Center for Drug Policy (CDP) is to develop, implement, maintain and monitor policies related to the use of pharmaceuticals and other technologies within the UW Health system, and our health care partners; to conduct health services research; and to provide education and training in the development and application of drug policy. The goals of drug policy* are to optimize and improve the outcomes of patient care while ensuring that finite health care resources are consumed in the most appropriate manner.
* “Drug policy” encompasses all modalities available to ensure the safe, rational, efficient and ethical use of medications in the treatment of patients. These modalities include, but are not limited to, processes for medication formulary management, the development of clinical practice guidelines, functions of therapeutic outcomes management and applied clinical economics.
