Can my department have a volunteer?

If your department is interested in starting a long-term volunteer program, please contact the department at 263-6046 or via e-mail at volunteer.services@uwhealth.org.

How do volunteers prepare for their positions?

Prospective volunteers must attend a general orientation including training on safety and infection control, confidentiality and patient privacy, emergency procedures, and cultural competency. They must then complete an application packet that includes a health assessment done by Employee Health, a criminal background check, and a confidentiality and commitment agreement. They must meet with Volunteer Services for a placement interview and to obtain a photo ID badge. The Volunteer Services department coordinates this process for each volunteer and works to ensure that volunteer records are up to date to comply with hospital policy regarding safety and infection control training and medical requirements (annual TB skin testing and flu shot).
