Simply…managing risk with the principle goals of optimum safety for patient, visitors and staff while maintaining or improving the financial impact on the organization.
The goals of a risk management program are for every employee to assist in managing risk by working to:
- Establish and maintain programs to address and prevent conditions that result in potential risk to patients, visitors and staff
- Timely identification and analysis of risk issues
- Formulate corrective and preventive actions and follow-up review
- Minimize adverse effects of loss
How do I report an event or unsafe condition?
Utilize the UWHC Patient Safety Net (PSN) Event Reporting system.
I am a resident completing my training and applying for positions. How do I get my insurance coverage information and claims history for a potential new employer?
Contact Sue Statz at (608) 261-1327 and she will coordinate provision of this information for you. The Risk Management Department maintains a database that provides insurance coverage and claims history for employees and faculty.
What should I do when a piece of equipment or medical device fails or malfunctions?
Immediately sequester the equipment or device including any packaging and contact Kathleen Swanson at (608) 263-0994 to report the event. Complete a Patient Safety Net Event Report as well.
