"Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction provides ways to develop calmness, stability and insight, thereby helping to manage the challenging circumstances in our lives."
- Kathy Bonus, Preventive Cardiology, MBSR Instructor
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is an eight-week class that can help people develop positive coping responses to stress through the principles and practice of meditation. This class is based on stress reduction research. Course content draws upon many resources and the professional and personal experiences of the instructor.
Participants are introduced to experiences and information in a progressive and reflective manner. They explore the "relaxation response" using methods such as body scanning, meditation, visualization and the practice of mindfulness.
Those who study this field believe these methods can offer the body and mind an experience of intentional calmness, stress reduction and a new perspective on our overall reactions to stressors.
The Preventive Cardiology Program offers daytime and evening two-hour MBSR classes at its west-side clinic, located at Research Park, 621 Science Drive, Madison. For information about specific dates and times, please call (608) 265-8325.
