Kanban Inventory Management Toolkit - Departments & Programs, Programs and Initiatives, UW Health Improvement Network (UWHIN), UWHIN Toolkit

After successful implementation at UW Health Sun Prairie, a toolkit has been developed to help facilitate the implementation of a Kanban Inventory Management System at UW Health Clinics. Kanban, a Lean Manufacturing philosophy for supply management, eliminates waste, inconsistences and unreasonable supply amounts - resulting in improved productivity and reduced inventory.

Kanban has been proven to reduce the supply valuation of exam rooms by over $185 per exam room at UW Health clinics. Additionally, physician testimonials suggest the provider is able to spend an additional hour per month with their patients that would have been spent looking for supplies. If properly implemented, a clinic can expect to see reductions in expired products, wasted provider time and time spent restocking.
