Collection Instructions:

Collect specimen for peak level 2 hours after the end of a 60 minute infusion. Collect trough specimen 15 - 30 minutes prior to next dose.

Unacceptable Criteria:

Specimens collected in red cap with yellow ring (SST) tubes are not acceptable. Specimens greater than 2 hours old, uncentrifuged when received by the laboratory, are not acceptable.

Additional Information:

Result of "BELOW" indicates that the result is below the method detection limit of 1.1 ug/mL. Vancomycin is a glycopeptide antibiotic which is bactericidal against many gram-positive and some gram-negative cocci. It is useful in therapy of infection in patients who cannot receive or who have failed to respond to the penicillins and cephalosporins.
