Methodology: Visual inspection for formation of Cryoglobulin. Cryocrit calculation if positive.

Clinical Information:

The Cryocrit is primarily intended for following a patient with previously defined and quantitated cryoglobulins. The Cryocrit may consist of cryoglobulins, fibrins or mixtures of cryoglobulins and fibrin.

Testing Site: Testing will be sent to an approved reference laboratory

In-Lab Turnaround Time: 4 - 7 days.

Patient Preparation:

Patient must fast for at least 6 hours prior to specimen collection. The patient may only have water or black coffee during the fasting period.

Specimen: Blood

Collection Container: Red top

Collection Instructions:

This blood must be sent by overnight courier to arrive at the performing laboratory within 72 hours of draw time. Blood must be received in laboratory by 1200 Monday-Wednesday ONLY. Keep specimen at 37°C by wrapping a hot pack (infant heel warmer) around the tube immediately after collection.

 

BEFORE COLLECTING SPECIMEN, pre-warm a red top tube (e.g. in an infant heel warmer). Have another infant heel warmer on hand to deliver the blood to the laboratory after collection. Transport specimen to laboratory within 10 minutes of collection. Contact laboratory if unable to assure delivery within 10 minutes.

Specimen Processing:

IMPORTANT: Keep whole blood specimen at 37°C during entire processing procedure.

Specimen Transport:

Transport whole blood specimen to laboratory within ten minutues of collection-keep specimen at 37°C by wrapping tube in a hot pack (infant heel warmer). Transport processed specimen to UWHC Hospital Laboratory at room temperature if coming from clinic location.

Unacceptable Criteria:

Icteric specimens.
