Submit bone marrow aspirate or aliquot of bone marrow product in aerobic and anaerobic Bactec bottles. An aerobic bottle only may be submitted as anaerobic infection is rare.

Filamenteous Fungus blood cultures should be collected when Malassezia furfur or dimorphic fungi, e.g. Histoplasma capsulatum, are suspected.
