Clinical Information:

Aids in the diagnosis of bacterial vaginosis. For vaginal specimens, also testing for yeast and Trichomonas is highly recommended.

Days Performed: Daily, 24 hours.

In-Lab Turnaround Time: 8 hours.

Stat In-Lab Turnaround Time: 1 hour.

Collection Instructions:

Submit swab of vaginal fluid collected from the posterior vaginal walls or of fluid pooled at the posterior fornix. AVOID THE CERVIX AND CERVICAL DISCHARGE.

Separate specimens must be collected for diagnosis of cervicitis (see Culture, Neisseria gonorrhoeae or Neisseria gonorrhoeae by Amplified Probe Technique).
