Clinical Information:

The intent of the test system together with other clinical information is to aid in the determination of immune status, and/or aid in the diagnosis of EBV.

Unacceptable Criteria:

Grossly hemolyzed/ lipemic, heat-treated serum, microbially contaminated and serum containing heavily-visible particulate.

Interpretation:


Negative: No detectable IgM antibodies to EBV-VCA.  This indicates patient has no current infection with EBV and is presumed to be susceptible to a primary infection.
Equivocal: Immune status cannot be determined.  If clinically warranted, a second sample should be taken 7 - 21 days after the first.
Positive: Reactive for IgM antibodies to EBV-VCA, indicating a current or reactivated infection with EBV-VCA. 

 

All equivocal test results will be repeated within two working days.
