The intent of the test system together with other clinical information is to aid in the determination of current or past exposure/immunization to mumps virus.
Days Performed: Three times per week.
In-Lab Turnaround Time: 1 - 4 days.

Sample Analyzed: Serum
Testing Volume: 0.5 mL
Pediatric Testing Volume: 0.3 mL
Centrifuge. Transfer cell-free serum to plastic vial. Refrigerate.
Transport specimen to the laboratory. Transport with coolant pack if coming from clinic location.
Grossly hemolyzed/lipemic, heat-treated serum, microbially contaminated and serum containing heavy-visible particulate.
|Negative:||No detectable IgG antibodies to Mumps virus. Patient is presumed to be non-immune and is susceptible to a primary infection|
|Equivocal:||Immune status cannot be determined. If clinically warranted, a second sample should be taken at least fourteen days after the first.|
|Positive:||Reactive for IgG antibodies to Mumps virus, indicating a current or past Mumps virus infection or prior vaccination against Mumps virus.|
All equivocal test results will be repeated within two working days.
