Collection Instructions:

Preferred Collection Container: Lavender (liquid EDTA or sprayed EDTA) or Green (sodium heparin only) top tube. If specimen is not bloody, it can be submitted in a capped syringe (remove needle before submitting to lab).

Collection Volume: 4 mL

Pediatric Collection Volume: 0.5 mL

Specimen Transport:

Transport specimen to UWHC Hospital Laboratory. Transport with coolant pack if coming from clinic location.

Unacceptable Criteria:

Clotted specimens are not acceptable. Specimens collected in powdered EDTA or lithium heparin tubes are not accepted. These anticoagulant types are associated with crystal formation (i.e., false positive results).
