Test Component:

One hour draw for glucose after administration of a glucose containing solution.

Methodology: Hexokinase

In-Lab Turnaround Time: 4 hours.

Stat In-Lab Turnaround Time: 1 hour.

Patient Preparation:

Patient should have nothing to eat or drink (except water) for a minimum of 8 hours before test. Exception: If patient is completing a one hour glucose challenge test for gestational diabetes, fasting is not required.


A solution containing 50 grams of glucose will be administered at the beginning of the test.

Specimen: Blood

Collection Container: Green cap with yellow ring (PST)

Also Acceptable: Green top, Red cap with yellow ring (SST), Red top

Collection Instructions:

Test available Mon-Fri, 0800-1500.

Test available Sat-Sun, 0900, at UW Hospital location only.

Collection Volume: 1 mL
