Indications

High-risk surveillance. It has been suggested that Breast MR may be obtained 6 months after annual screening mammogram. MRI screening in addition to mammograms for women who meet at least one of the following conditions:

May require insurance pre-authorization. Requires injection of IV gadolinium contrast. Common contraindications include: claustrophobia, neck and back pain. Inability to lie on stomach, some metallic implants, or large body habitus or breast size. Requires a health care provider order.
