Zero Heroes: P5 CAUTI-Free for Four Years!

The P5 Unit at AFCH recently achieved four years of ZERO catheter associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs)! Kirsten Koffarnus, MS, RN, CPNP, clinical nurse specialist on P5, provided insight as to how they reached this remarkable milestone.

Last month, the gynecoloogy,urgology, and plastics surgical unit (F6/6) was awarded the title of Zero Heroes for having zero central line associated blood stream infections (CLABSI) for 12 months and counting!

Congratulations to the staff of D6/6, NICU, P5 and P7 for achieving Zero Hero status. All four units had zero CDI, CLABSI, CAUTI, falls, and falls with injury during quarter two (April-June 2017). F6/5 has been CAUTI-free for one year!

Congratulations to the staff of the B4/3, D4/5, NICU and P8 for acheiving Zero Hero status. B4/3 has had zero CDI, CLABSI, CAUTI, Falls, and Falls with injury during quarter two (April - June) 2017, D4/5 has had zero CDI, CLABSI, CAUTI, Falls, and Falls with injury during quarter two (April - June) 2017, the NICU team has been CAUTI free for 1 year, while the staff of P8 has been CLABSI free for 1 year!
The Zero Hero honor aims to encourage and inspire staff and faculty to strive for the best in patient quality and safety by achieving
zero hospital-acquired infections or patient falls. Zero Hero Awards were created to recognize and share best practice performance for inpatients units achieving no adverse events in:
catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs)
central line-associated blood system infections (CLABSIs)
clostridium difficile (CDI)
patient falls and patients falls with injury
