Video Monitoring

Your healthcare team feels that for your safety you should be watched
closely at this time. We will use a video monitor.
What is Video Monitoring?
Video Monitoring is a system with a video camera and 2-way speaker
system. This allows a trained nursing assistant to watch you more closely
and speak with you to help keep you safe. There is no recording of the
video or audio.
Who can see me?
The hospital has specially trained nursing assistants called video monitor technicians. They are
located in a private area of the hospital that is only for staff members.
Can I talk to the person monitoring me?
Yes. You can talk to each other using the 2-way speaker system. However, you should use your
call light to request help with any of your needs.
When am I being monitored?
You can be seen at all times. If there is a time you need privacy, a screen can be put in place and
they will not be able to see you. When the light on the camera is on, the staff can see you. If the
privacy screen is put on the camera, the light will be off and staff will not be able to see you.
How long will I be monitored?
Your healthcare team will decide when it is safe to stop using the monitor. Video monitoring
does not take the place of your normal care. It is an extra step to help keep you safe.
