Surgery after Colonoscopy

The colonoscopy will be 1-2 days before surgery. NO FOOD after the colonoscopy.
You can drink clear liquids only. “Clear liquid” means no residue, pulp, or fiber, it does not
mean ‘colorless’. Clear liquids include
 Water
 Popsicles, with no fruit fiber
 Sparkling water or soda
 Broth or bouillon
 Crystal Light®
 Juice with no pulp (apple, white grape,
no orange)
 Hard candy
 Coffee or tea, no creamer – sugar is OK
 Gatorade® or other clear sports drinks
 Ensure Active Clear
 No alcohol
 No dairy products

The Day before Surgery
This afternoon and evening you will take three doses of antibiotic pills.

ξ 3 p.m. take the 1st dose
ξ 5 p.m. take the 2nd dose
ξ 10 p.m. take the last dose

Keep drinking clear liquids only until bedtime. Shower with Hibiclens® soap before you go to

The Morning of Surgery Shower again with Hibiclens® soap.
